Why I Want to Be an Educator
Becoming an educator isn’t easy—and neither is being one. But remembering why you got into this gig in the first place will help you stay focused when those challenging days come around, and take pride in your successes. Read some of your peers’ inspiring words, then go to the bottom of this page to share your own reason for taking on the world’s most important profession.
Marlene Wolfe, Tennessee Tech University
"I believe that education is the foundation of success and is a lifelong learning process. It shouldn't be limited to classroom dictation and expectations. As an educator, I want to make a difference in education. All children should have the opportunity to receive the best education available to them no matter their social economic status or race. By providing a firm education, we pave the road toward future growth and development."
Ben Beck, Delaware Tech & Community College
"I had difficulty when I was younger grasping concepts in the classroom due to quality of teachers, and no student deserves to be overlooked to make the job easier. I want to remind the education world that teaching is a passion, not a paycheck. I enjoy being a part of the learning experience, and to help students understand that with knowledge comes power."
Rachel Blasius, Westfield State College, Massachusetts
"Why not teach? It’s incredibly hard work but it is the most rewarding job out there and every day is different."
Sha-Quita Jordan, Georgia Perimeter College
"I believe as a teacher I must motivate, inspire, and encourage my students to strive for success. As an educator it is my responsibility to lift them up when they are down. I believe the purpose of education is to help students prepare for the real world by helping them become independent citizens and by providing them with knowledge needed for future careers. The only role that my students have is to come to school prepared and ready to learn.”
Dave Covington, Chadron State College, Nebraska
"I want to give students a chance to become knowledgeable when no one else gives them a chance."
Bonnie Joe Greek, Western Governors University
“I want to inspire others to reach their fullest potential and to learn from them in the process.”
Jennifer Mills, Central State University, Ohio
“There's no greater profession! I have a passion for learning as well as sharing my knowledge with others. I love working with youth and seeing the difference I can make in their lives. I get chills just thinking of the lifetime benefits—I teach, I touch the future. ”
Tamara Hanley, Delaware Tech & Community College
"I want to teach children something more. I want to know by the time they leave my classroom they have gained something that will stay with them forever. I want to know that I have made a difference to a child."
Melina Cabrera, California State University, Stanislaus
“I think that teaching is the best job in the world! Even though many teachers complain about how much is demanded from them, I wouldn't want to be anything else. Teaching is such a rewarding job because you get to make a difference in children's lives and help guide them to make the right choices in life.”

I want to be a teacher because I want to be a part of people's lives and inspire and motivate them to become the best they could and I want them to know the importance of a teacher in society and in turn inspire them to be teachers
When a person is well educated she or he have so many open doors concerning their future and their life will be change. When put God first there is no limitations where you can go.

Education is like the most powerful weapon,we can use to change the world.N.Mandela To the world you may be just a teacher ,but to your students ,you are a hero.
I love teaching because it gives me the opportunity to take my shoes off and have children rub my feet! They are like my little slaves! Once my door closes, the shoes come off and the sweat shop begins. At first, I felt bad, but now it is just a part of our everyday activities. I love my job!
To be a teacher needs full of passion towards teaching and challenges to change world's negativeness into positiveness without using any weapon.to change people's rigid thinking teaching is best way.teachers must wear inspired smile while teaching because children easily grasp teacher's behaviour and in last I want to say that always teach to keep positive attitudes towards difficult situation

Why i want to become an educator is it is nothing but my passion.Teachers are the makers of future generation and i proud to be a makers of future genration. As a maker of future generation it is my duty to impart maximum knowledge to my students so as to lead them in there future life

Being an educator, in my mind, is being a civil rights activist. I have seen first hand how the achievement gap in the United States impacts students on a daily basis- and teachers are at the forefront of the struggle to eliminate that. Although I am no longer working in the classroom, my work still supports quality education for all.

I want to be an educator because I want to be the change that our students need. Education should be a universal right and not a privilege. Students with disabilities or students from lower socio-economic status should have access to an appropriate, high-quality education.
I want to become a teacher because it is the most likely job that would hire me after I graduate from college. There are no jobs. I will not lie. I mistakenly got into high sch. It should have been elementary ed. I would have the passion. But if my student are not ready to learn in high sch., that's their business. I can take the horse to the water, but can't force water into its mouth. If they want to be back there, they can. They would only pay a few years from now when they cannot get good jobs

About 300,000 of our colleegues enjoy teaching also and will find themselves out od jobs this coming school year. Being in this field is more than about what happens in the classroom. Policy and legislative considerations also impact student learning. How will public eduation be financed in the future so that we don't continue operate in a constant state of bankrupcy?
Neverna Stephenson | 2010/07/16
I agree with Mr. Beck of Delaware Tech that no child should be overlooked "just" to make the job easier. However, I would like to inquire as to whether or not you were evaluated for any kind of learning disabilities? It is difficult for professional, caring and passionate teachers to ignore the one student who doesn't grasp concepts the first time. I believe that a good, professional teacher should take more time with the one student. It will be that "one" student who will make the difference in the classroom experience for the teacher.

I've encountered too many people who think that history is boring and pointless. What they haven't experienced is how vibrant it can be, and how interconnected history is with other subjects. Knowing the past helps give students (well, everyone) a sense of place and can help them determine where they want to go and why. The world is fascinating, and its story is worth discovering. Teaching history in an engaging and challenging way is one method that can help shape students into interactive, purposeful individuals.
