Мы с ребенком написали: Where are mom and dad? (имея ввиду, что это "они", множественное число, в утвердительной форме в любом случае Mom and dad are in the garden)

Если я не права, скажите, почему. Если права, нужны примеры, чтобы исправить четверку. Спасибо

I'm working on a screenplay and I'm perplexed on one line. Ms. Pendleton asks: Where is Mom and Dad?

or should she say: Where are Mom and Dad?

Where are your parents?

Where are Mom and Dad?

Where is Mom. and where is Dad?

Assuming Mom and Dad are separable entities — and, granted, sometimes, they seem to be a singular entity unto themselves — we want a plural verb there, "are." If you make separate subjects of them, as some of your examples do, then you'll want singular verbs. I would think the most natural thing is for Ms. Pendleton to ask "Where are Mom and Dad?"

There is one further consideration, however. Some writers will call "where" in this construction an "existential subject" and say that it deserves a singular verb. In this way, "there" is sometimes treated as an existential, singular subject. "There is a man and a woman in the lobby." In formal or academic text, however, the correct verb would be "are."

Which company (squadron, battery)?

Уич кампэни (скуэдрон, баттери)?

When did the regiment (battalion, company) take up its position?

Если же писать со строчными, имеются в виду родовые понятия, и нужны артикли: " Would it be nice for every child to have a mom and a dad?"

Что, в принципе, логично.

Безусловно каждый ребенок заслуживает право иметь маму и папу. В принципе. Абстрактную маму и абстрактного папу. Но когда вы про конкретных родителей спрашиваете вы не можете же употребить неопределенный артикль. Это все равно что подойти к русскому ребенку и спросить: "Дружочек, а где здесь чьи-нибудь мама и папа?". Не "твои мама и папа". А в принципе - хоть чьи-нибудь.

множественное число тут в русском, а в английском группа — единственное число
